CARTERET, NJ–On Friday night, GMC Gridiron traveled over to The Pit at Carteret High School to see the Ramblers in action against White Division rival, Bishop Ahr. After a close first half that only saw the Ramblers lead 7-0 at the intermission, Carteret dialed up some big plays in the third period to take a 27-0 lead, and coasted from there to a 41-13 victory over BGA. Jerod Johnson had four TD runs of 11, 20, 49, and 66 yards and also had a kickoff return of 80 yards. Tyler Rodriguez threw a TD pass of 68 yards to Erik Fruscella, and had a 52 yard strike to Brandon Gilder that set up Johnson’s third TD run of the game. Carteret had 15 plays of 11 yards or more in the contest. Below are some notes taken during the game.
Pre-Game Notes
Bishop Ahr enters this game with a record 4-2 with losses coming to Matawan and St. Joseph’s, and victories over J.F. Kennedy, South Plainfield, New Brunswick. of Carteret enters the contest at 5-0 with wins over St. Joseph’s, Raritan, South Plainfield, New Brunswick, and Woodbridge. The Ramblers are averaging between 35 and 40 points per game.
First Quarter

3:15–BGA–Kevin Momat receives punt by CAR, and runs the ball into CAR territory for a nice return, but the play is called back because of a block in the back by BGA. Trojans start out on their own 7 yard line.
0:49–CAR–forces BGA to punt deep in their own territory–Mike Jensen’s punt is partially blocked by Brandon Gilder. Penalty on CAR, but they keep the ball at the BGA 38 yard line.

Second Quarter

Both teams defenses have done a nice job overall of stopping the run although Carteret has been able to move the ball better thanks to the combination of Jerod and Naji Johnson. Jerod Johnson has two runs of over 10 yards while Naji Johnson has three plays of over 19 yards.
BGA has made several nice plays, but overall look out of sorts a bit on offense with a couple delay of game penalties and a couple early timeouts in the game. Each team has had a chance to make big pass plays, but have just missed. BGA did have a nice hook up for 40 yards.
Third Quarter
10:53–BGA–goes 3 and out–Jensen punts to CAR 34 yard line.
10:39–CAR–Jerod Johnson scampers left and then breaks into the open at about midfield, and runs it in from there for 66 yards and TD. BGA tackles Gilder on extra point–CAR leads 13-0.
9:29–BGA–goes three and out after getting a nice kickoff return by Momat. CAR gets ball downed at its own 10 yard line.
9:17–CAR–Jerod Johnson runs 22 yards for 1st down.
9:09–CAR–Rodriguez throws pass over the middle to Fruscella for a 68 yard TD. Extra point is good for a CAR 20-0 lead.
9:08–CAR–kicks ball off to about the BGA 45 yard line.
6:50–BGA–after a nice first down run by Momat was negated by penalty–BGA punts it away on fourth down to CAR 28 yard line.
6:32–CAR–Rodriguez throws left to Gilder for 52 yards to BGA 20 yard line.

4:50–BGA–appeared to be stopped dead, but got the benefit of several Careret penalties, and got the ball to the CAR 35 yard line.

9:24–BGA–Mike Viggiano in at QB throws 62 yard TD pass along CAR sideline to Kaysaan Neal. BGA makes extra point for a 34-13 CAR lead.
9:09–CAR–BGA kicks ball short to Jerod Johnson at CAR 20 yard line–runs right, and the scoots up CAR sideline for an 80 yard TD. CAR extra point is good for a 41-13 lead.
8:12–BGA–now on a 3rd and 17 after two CAR tackles for losses. Ramblers hitting hard on each of the last three plays. Nelson Thomas shaken up on play–leaves the field on his own power.
