GMC Gridiron–Week Seven–Quick Picks

SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ–It’s week seven of the GMC football season, and GMC Gridiron is looking to follow up on another strong showing last week. So, with time a wasting, here are some quick picks for Week #7. GMC Gridiron hopes to have more detailed outlooks on games next week.

GMC Gridiron–Week Six–Quick Picks

  • Bishop Ahr at Carteret–The Trojans lost at home to St. Joseph’s by the score of 9-6 in the first ever meeting between these neighborhood rivals. BGA also only South Plainfield by a point on the road. Carteret, on the other hand, soundly defeated both the Falcons and the Tigers. Prediction: –Carteret wins 35-17.
  • St. Joseph’s at South Plainfield–The Falcons defeated Bishop Ahr several weeks ago 9-6, and have been flying high since. Only two losses on the year for Joes were two Carteret and Colonia, two of the best teams in the GMC White. South Plainfield has been competitive despite a 1-4 record. Expect the same here. Prediction: –St. Joseph’s wins 17-13
  • North Brunswick at Sayreville–In the WCTC game of the week, the top ranked Bombers host North Brunswick, a team that has been playing better as of late. Sayreville is riding high though after knocking off perennial GMC Red rival, Piscataway on the road. Tough task for the Raiders.Prediction: –Sayreville wins 31-10.
  • Piscataway at Monroe–Monroe is an improved team despite recent losses to Edison and Old Bridge. However, Piscataway is coming off a tough loss to Sayreville last week, and will probably be in an angry mood. Prediction: –Piscataway wins 35-7.
  • East Brunswick at J.P. Stevens–J.P. Stevens almost upset Sayreville a couple weeks ago, but then lost to a North Brunswick team that East Brunswick defeated on the road by a 14-3 score. However, the Hawks defeated EB last year on the road, are more experienced, and are playing at home. Should be a close one though. Prediction: –J.P. Stevens 13-10.
  • Old Bridge at Edison–In the Star-Ledger’s Middlesex County Game of the Week, both the Knights and Edison are improving and still have a shot at a playoff berth in their respective sections despite having to go through Piscataway, Sayreville, and South Brunswick in the first three weeks of the season. Old Bridge is more experienced though, and defeated Piscataway while Edison went winless against the Big Three of the GMC Red. Prediction: Old Bridge wins 27-17.
  • J.F. Kennedy at Woodbridge–The Mustangs are playing much better after wins over New Brunswick and Perth Amboy while Woodbridge has lost three of its last four following a 2-0 start. The Barrons have more weapons with basketball standout Duquan Bailey in the backfield along with a stout defense. Woodbridge is also playing at home.  Prediction:  Woodbridge wins 20-10.
  • Perth Amboy at New Brunswick–Both teams are winless, but something has to give here. New Brunswick is playing at home, but enters the contest with 26 straight losses. Meanwhile, Amboy has played competitively in a few games including a 6-0 loss at Colonia. Prediciton: Perth Amboy wins 9-6.
  • South Brunswick at Middletown North–Both of these teams played Old Bridge this season with South Brunswick defeating the Knights in overtime at home while the Lions lost handily to OB. Vikings should win this one. Prediction: South Brunswick wins 38-14.
  • Colonia at Raritan–Both teams are going in opposite directions here with the Patriots at 6-0 while the Rockets are 0-6. Raritan played Carteret at home in week two and was soundly defeated by the Ramblers, 49-17. Expect Colonia to win easily here as well. Predicition: Colonia wins 33-14.
  • Dunellen at Spotswood–The Destroyers are rolling at 3-1 in the GMC Blue following a sound win over Highland Park last week. Spotswood beat up Cardinal McCarrick two weeks ago, but lost at Metuchen last week. Both teams have played the Bulldogs with Dunellen edging MHS while the Chargers lost by a TD. Dunellen’s disciplined attack should be enough to hold off Spotswood. Predicition: Dunellen wins 20-17.
  • South River at Cardinal McCarrick–The Rams have lost three straight, but two of those losses came against quality small school teams from the Shore Conference in Shore Regional (45-7) and Keyport, and the other came against a solid Dunellen squad. South River can put up points while McCarrick can give up a lot of points. The Rams should win here. Predicition: South River wins 38-7.
  • Asbury Park at Metuchen–The Bishops are one of the stronger teams year in and year out in the Shore’s small school division, and always a contender in Central Jersey Group I. Metuchen is coming off a solid win last week against Spotswood, and is better than its record indicates. The Bulldogs are also playing at home. Blue Bishops get the edge though. Prediction: Asbury Park wins 35-14.
  • Point Pleasant Beach at Highland Park–Despite the talent and athletic ability of Quatay Nesmith and Nadre Hepburn, the Owls are staring down a losing season, and have only a few more weeks to avoid a winless season. It doesn’t get any easier here with a Point Beach team that manhandled both McCarrick and Dunellen earlier this season. Prediction: Point Pleasant Beach wins 41-7.
