GMC Hoops Game Notes–Cardinal McCarrick vs. Bound Brook–GMC-Skyland Challenge–January 19, 2013

BOUND BROOK, NJ–On Saturday night, GMC Hoops rounded out the busy day of basketball at the GMC-Skyland Challenge with a trip to Bound Brook High School to see the Crusaders against Cardinal McCarrick. Led by Jack Welti and Hamilton Cappellan, the Crusaders jumped out to a 16-3 first quarter lead, and never looked back as they led by as many as 42 points on a couple of occasions in the fourth before the Eagles closed out the contest with a 16-5 flurry including the final 10 points for an 88-57 Bound Brook victory. Below are some game notes from the contest.

First Quarter

5:15–CM–full timeout–Bound Brook up 11-3 with Eagles only points coming on a three pointer from the right corner by Sky Harris.

3:37–CM–BB reels off 5 more points for a 16-3 lead before Jaquantee Madden is fouled and makes 1 of 2 FTs for a 16-4 BB lead.

1:42–CM–gets a jumper by Tavian Chukwuani and a putback by Madden for  a 21-8 BB lead.

47.2–CM–30 sec timeout–BB reels off five points including score by Hamilton  Cappellan and a three by Jack Welti for a 26-8 lead.

0.0–CM–Harris pulls up for jumper from foul line as time runs out for a 28-10 BB lead.

CM–has 8 turnovers and given up 9 offensive rebounds already.


Second Quarter

6:43–BB–now up 30-13–#11 at the line for 1 of 2 FTs and a 31-13 lead.

4:54–BB–timeout–Crusaders lead 31-15 after an earlier putback for CM by Madden.  Team fouls–CM 3–BB 1.

3:00–CM–Michael Vick hits jumper from just inside the top of the key for a 36-18 BB lead.

1:42–CM–Sean McRae swishes three from left wing for a 40-21 BB lead.  BB had numerous opportunities to score, but couldn’t cash in until Leon Johnson scored on a putback.  McCarrick couldn’t get the ball out of their  backcourt–kept giving the ball away.

1:30–BB–Welti hits three pointer from right side for a 43-21 lead.

6.8–BB–Welti hits three pointer from left corner for a 46-21 lead.

0.0–CM–heave by Harris off the mark–BB leads 46-21 at the half.

Bound Brook–top scorers–Welti with 12 points and Cappellan with 11.


Third Quarter

7:20–CM–Harris pulls up for short baseline jumper from right side for a 46-23 BB lead.

7:09–BB–Ricky Holliday scores for Crusaders and a 48-23 lead

6:58–CM–McRae–fouled–1 of 2 FTs for a 48-24 BB lead.

6:40–BB–J.D. Rodriguez intentionally fouled by Madden–makes both FTs–technical foul on CM bench–Rodriguez makes two more FTs for a 52-24 lead.

6:32–BB–full timeout.

5:22–CM–Krimin–layup from right low block for a 54-26 lead.

5:07–BB–Rodriguez pull-up jumper from right wing for a 56-26 lead.

5:37–BB–Cappellan–nice no look pass to Holliday for layup from right side  for an 80-38 lead.

5:27–BB–all starters taken out–still leading 80-38–CM–Jahmal Pryce at the line.  Makes 1 of 2 FTs for a 80-39 BB lead.

5:00–CM–basket for an 80-41 BB lead.

4:48–BB–three pointe for an 83-41 lead.

0:00–BB wins 88-57–CM finishes the game on a 16-5 run against BB reserves including the last 10 points.
