GMC Hoops Game Notes–Old Bridge vs. Point Boro–Hoop Group Headquarters Fall League–November 4, 2013

NEPTUNE, NJ–On Monday night, GMC Hoops traveled out to the Hoop Group Headquarters for the final night of action in the 2013 Fall League there.  Both Sayreville and Old Bridge were in action.  The Knights were taking on the Panthers of Point Pleasant Boro during the 9:00 PM hour.  The Panthers jumped out to a 10-0 lead, and led by as many as 14 in the first half en route to a 28-17 halftime lead.  The Knights tried to step it up on defense with some pressure to open the second half, and pulled within four, but couldn’t get any closer in a 53-42 loss.  Below are some brief notes on the contest.

First Half

Dominated by runs from both teams.  Point Boro opened the game with a 10-0 run before Old Bridge called timeout.  The Panthers went up 14-2, and then 16-3 with the Knights only having a FG, and then 1 of 2 FTs from Zach Attianese.  Old Bridge battled back though with an 11-1 tear that included two FTs by Tyler Drews, a four point play by Stephen Strom, a three point play by Drews, and a three by Kasuan Figueroa to pull the Knights within three at 17-14.  Point Boro then went on an 11-0 run for a 28-14 lead before the Knights got a three point play by Drews to pull within 11 at 28-17 at the half.

Second Half

Old Bridge came out fighting to start the 2nd half with an 8-2 run to close the gap to 30-26 as the Knights stepped up some defensively with some full court pressure.  However, the Knights were unable to get any closer as Point Boro outscored them by a 14-9 margin over the next 12 minutes or so to go up 44-35.  The Panthers then increased their lead to 53-42 before the game was stopped with 2:36 remaining.  Officials stopped the game.  Don’t know the reason for the stoppage.

Once again, GMC Hoops thanks the folks at Hoop Group for their hospitality and assistance this season.  Video highlights from much of Monday night action will be forthcoming.
