Colonia’s Cole Playing Well at New Jersey City University

Former Patriots Standout a Solid Contributor for Gothic Knights

JERSEY CITY, NJ–In addition to South River’s Shawn Fenton, New Jersey City University has a couple other former GMC standouts on its roster this season. One of them is former Colonia hoops player, David Cole, who is a junior at the school. So far this season, Cole has been a solid contributor off the bench for the Gothic Knights, which are 5-2 through the first seven games of the season including a 2-1 mark in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. Cole has played in all 7 contests, averaging 18.6 minutes, 7.9 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per game.

Cole ranks fifth on the team in minutes played, fourth in scoring, and tied for sixth in rebounding. He has made 20 of 43 shots from the field overall for 47 percent including a 10 of 24 showing from three point range for 42 percent. He is shooting 5 of 7 from the line for 71 percent. In the two most recant games against Rowan on December 4th, and Albertus Magnus College on December 3rd, Cole turned in solid efforts. In a 62-59 loss to Rowan, Cole made 4 of his 6 shot attempts from the field including a three pointer for 9 points while grabbing 3 rebounds, and handing out an assist in 17 minutes. Then, in a 77-63 loss to Albertus Magnus, Cole made two field goals including a three while also adding a free throw for 6 points along with 5 rebounds, an assist, and a block in 22 minutes. Two weeks ago, he had a career high 13 points in a win over Ramapo.

As a sophomore, Cole played in 26 games including two starts. He averaged 14.3 minutes per game, 3.5 points per game and 1.5 rebounds per game. Had a season high 10 points versus both Rowan and William Paterson. Two years ago as a freshman, Cole played in 20 games and averaged 7.7 minutes per game, 1.4 rebounds per game, and had an assist to turnover ratio of 1.0. Through Wednesday, Cole has played in 53 games as NJCU including two starts in his career. He has averaged 12.4 minutes, 3.3 points, 1.1 rebounds, 0.5 assists, and 0.5 steals per game. He has shot 60 of 171 overall from the field for 35 percent, 28 of 88 from three for 32 percent, and 25 of 37 from the line for 68 percent.

Last year, NJCU finished 14-12 overall including a 9-9 mark in the NJAC. Two years ago, the Gothic Knights were 17-8 including a 7-6 mark in conference play. During Cole’s tenure at the school, New Jersey City University is 36-22 overall including a 18-16 record in the NJAC.
