Colonia’s Usuwa Off To Strong Start At Stockton

Former Patriots Standout Flourishing in Senior Season for Ospreys

GALLOWAY, NJ–David Cole is not the only former Colonia standout doing well at the college level so far this season. His fellow teammate, Nnamdi Usuwa is off to a strong start over at Richard Stockton College. So far this season, the Ospreys are off to a 5-1 start with their only loss to William Paterson by two (74-72) on Wednesday. Usuwa has played a key role in the team’s strong start. The former Colonia standout has played in and started in all six games averaging 25 minutes, 12.5 points, and 6.0 rebounds per game.

So far this season, Usuwa is shooting 58 percent (30 of 52) overall from the floor, and 63 percent (15 of 24) from the foul line. He ranks fifth on the team in minutes, and second on the team in scoring and rebounding. Usuwa ranks second among Stockton’s starters in field goal percentage as well. Last year, Usuwa returned to the team after taking a year off. Despite the layoff, Usuwa played in 20 games, and averaged 8.3 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 0.7 blocks per game. He led the team in rebounding and tied for the team lead in blocks. Usuwa shot 53 percent from the floor (66 of 125) to finish second in field goal percentage.

Three seasons ago, Usuwa played in and started in all 27 games for the Ospreys. He shot 51 percent from the floor (119 of 232) and 71 of 115 at the line for 62 percent. Usuwa ended up averaging 11.4 points and 7.0 rebounds per game. He scored a career high of 20 points in a game versus Brooklyn College, and pulled down a career high 17 rebounds against Penn State-Harrisburg. In his freshman year at Stockton, Usuwa played in 21 games including one start, and made 17 of 30 shot attempts from the floor and went 10 of 19 from the line to average 2.1 points and 1.3 rebounds per game.

For his career, Usuwa has played in 74 games including 34 starts. He has connected on 202 of 387 attempts from the floor for 52 percent, and made 115 of 196 attempts from the line for 59 percent. Usuwa is averaging 8.0 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 0.4 blocks per game. Last year, Stockton finished 21-8 overall including a 13-5 mark in conference play. In 2011-12, the Ospreys were 20-9 overall including a 12-1 mark in conference. In 2010-11, Stockton ended up 16-11 overall including an 8-5 mark in the NJAC. In 2009-10, the Ospreys were 20-8 overall including a 9-4 mark in NJAC play. So, during Usuwa’s tenure at Stockton, the Ospreys have compiled a mark of 62-28 overall including a 32-15 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference.
