Former Trojans Standout Seeing Some Time Off Bench For Cougars

DALLAS, PA–In addition to Darius Griffin, who is playing college ball at The College of New Jersey, Bishop Ahr has another former standout playing at the college level. Patrick Widdoss, who helped guide the Trojans to a GMCT Final Four appearance in the 2010-11 season before losing to Piscataway, is now playing college hoops at Misericordia. So far this season, the Cougars are off to a 3-3 start after losing in overtime to neighborhood rival, Wilkes in their league opener the other night. Widdoss, a reserve, has played in all six games including one start.

The Somerset native has averaged 12.5 minutes, 2.8 points, and 1.5 rebounds per game so far this season. Last season, Widdoss played in 21 contests including one start, and averaged 10.3 minutes, 2.1 points, and 1.6 rebounds per game. He tallied a season high of 7 points along with three assists at Eastern, and pulled down a career high 6 rebounds at King’s College. Widdoss also had another solid performance at home versus Eastern with 6 points and 4 boards. As a freshman, the former Ahr standout appeared in only 10 games and averaged 1.2 points and 0.8 rebounds per game, but did attain his career high of 8 points against Drew University on 4 of 5 shooting.

Recently, Widdoss equaled that career high on 3 of 5 shooting from the floor and 2 of 2 from the line in a 67-65 loss to Haverford College on November 21st. In a victory over Baptist Bible on November 16th, Widdoss scored 6 points and grabbed a rebound in a 93-78 victory. In that game, Widdoss connected on all three of his shots in just 8 minutes of playing time. Last year, Misericordia finished 13-13 overall and had its fourth consecutive Freedom Conference Tournament berth. Two years ago, the Cougars enjoyed their best season ever with a 21-7 mark overall, and the school’s first ever Freedom Conference Championship.

Misericordia, which had previously played in the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference, which is now the Colonial States Athletic Conference, moved into the Freedom Conference a few years ago, and reached the conference’s title game in the 2009-10 season. During Widdos’ tenure at the school, the Cougars are 37-23 overall. Another former GMC player is currently attending Misericordia. Mike Brunson, a reserve on St. Joe’s the past several seasons, is now a freshman at the school.
