Former Woodbridge Standout Pearson Signs with Pace University

Playing Post-Graduate Hoops at The Robinson School, Pearson Will Play for Northeast-10 School Next Year

WOODBRIDGE, NJ–After a solid season his senior year at Woodbridge, 6’7″ forward, Jared Pearson is now playing post-graduate ball at The Robinson School, and he has made his college choice. Next year, Pearson will be attending Pace University in New York. A school in the Northeast-10 conference, Pace competes against the likes of Stonehill University and New Haven University. Both of those schools have former GMC standouts in Dan Brix of St. Joseph’s (Stonehill) and Jeff Adkins (New Haven). Pearson is one of several players that recently signed with Pace during the early signing period.

Joining him next year at Pace will be St. Peter’s Prep hoops standout, Vic Jusino, who helped guide the Marauders to a Non-Public A North championship and a Non-Public A state finals berth in 2012-13. St. Peter’s Prep lost to St. Joe’s twice including the Non-Public A State Championship at Pine Belt Arena last March. Also, currently on the Pace roster this year is another player from the Garden State in Jonathan Merceus, who is a senior at the school. Last year, Pearson helped guide Woodbridge to its best season in 30 years by averaging 18.4 points per game. The Barrons, under first year head coach, Matt Gigliello, reached the GMCT Final Four for the first time ever, advanced to the Central Jersey Group III quarterfinals, and won the Keith Benovengo Holiday Tournament.

Woodbridge finished second in the GMC White behind North Brunswick, and went 22-5 overall including a 12-2 mark in divisional play. As a junior at WHS, Pearson saw varsity time while also helping the JV squad reach the quarterfinals of the East Brunswick/GMC JV Tournament. The Junior Barrons defeated Cardinal McCarrick in a Round of 16 game, but then lost to eventual finalist East Brunswick in the quarterfinals. So far this season at the Robinson School, Pearson is on a talented team with five of the top post-graduates in the state of New Jersey according to NJ Hoops including two players in Jahleem Montague (Atlantic City) and Rakwan Kelly (Newark Tech) that guided their teams to T of C semifinal appearances last year. So far this season, the Phoenix are 6-1 overall.

Highlights from this season by Pearson include a double-double of 19 points and 11 rebounds in a 93-55 victory over Post University’s JV squad on November 22nd, and then a 10 point, 5 rebound effort in a 114-40 win over RG Academy back on October 24th. Pearson follows another former Woodbridge player at the Robinson School. Keith Hughes, who now plays at Georgian Court University, attended the Robinson School last year. Jared’s older brother Kyle, who joined Hughes as two 1,000 point scorers at Woodbridge High their senior year, now plays at FDU.
