GMC Hoops Highlights–February 14, 2014–Carteret @ South Plainfield–Blue Division Clash

Here are highlights of the action in a GMC Blue Division contest between Carteret and South Plainfield on Valentine’s Day 2014. Carteret had a 27-18 lead with three minutes to go in the first half when the Ramblers scored six straight points to take a 33-18 lead. The Tigers responded though with a 9-0 run that included a three pointer by Chris Mathis (21 points), and a steal for a layup by Jordan Hankerson (5 points) to close the gap to 33-27 at the break.

In the second half though, South Plainfield could only get as close as five points early in the third, and then seven points on a couple of occasions late in the fourth as Carteret cruised behind the play of juniors Jaquan Robertson (26 points including 5 threes) and Brandon Gilder (15 points) while senior Anthony Spinelli (14 points) put the dagger in with a rare four point game that turned a 61-54 advantage into a 65-54 lead. The Ramblers went on to win from there, 71-59. Roemello Monroe added 10 for SPHS while Malik Cisson chipped in with 8 points and 8 rebounds in a losing cause.
