GMC Hoops Game Notes–April 10, 2014–East Brunswick vs. Freehold Boro–MJBL Spring League

MONROE, NJ–On Thursday night, GMC Hoops traveled back out to the Monroe Sports Center to take in some action from the Mid-Jersey Basketball Spring League. In the featured game, East Brunswick overcame a 29-21 deficit with an 18-7 tear capped by a three from Matt Perel, a putback by Billy Donahue, and another three by Nick Fudali for a 39-36 lead with about 8:30 remaining. Over the next 6:26 or so, Freehold Boro rallied with 8 straight points to take a 44-39 lead before Perel hit another trey to close the gap to two with just over two minutes left. Freehold then scored the next 6 points including two pairs of free throws and a two handed jam for a 50-42 lead en route to a 51-45 victory. Below are some notes from the contest.

First Half

15:10–FB–jumps out to a 7-2 lead.

10:00–EB takes its first lead of the game at 10-9 on a three pointer from left side by Nick Fudali.

9:39–FB–converts a three point play for a 12-10 lead.

7:49–FB–drills a three from the top of the key for an 8-0 run and a 17-10 lead.

3:13–FB–scores 8 of next 12 points including two layups for a 25-14 lead.

8.7–EB ends half with the last five points including a scoop shot layup by Nick Fudali and a three from the left corner by Ryan Ward. Freehold Boro leads 25-19 at the half.


Second Half

18:30–FB–scores 4 of the first 6 points for a 29-21 lead.

10:00–EB–ties game at 36-36 on a three by Matt Perel and a putback by Billy Donahue.

8:30–EB takes its first lead at 39-36 since 10-9 on a three from the left side by Fudali.

6:46–FB–scores two layups for a 40-39 lead.

5:23–FB–drives in for bank shot and a 42-39 lead.

2:04–EB–pulls within two at 44-42 on a three from the right side of the key by Perel.

1:48–FB–draws foul and makes both fts for a 46-42 lead.

0:55–FB–draws foul and makes both fts for a 48-42 lead.

0:10–FB–steal for dunk and a 50-42 lead.

0:03–EB-long three by Perel for a 50-45 FB lead.

1.1–FB–draws foul and makes 1 of 2 FTs for a 51-45 lead.

Freehold Boro wins 51-45.
