Spotswood’s Grant Contributes To Brookdale’s Success

Former Chargers Standout Helps Jersey Blues Off Bench

LINCROFT, NJ–After enjoying a very successful high school career at Spotswood High School, Dalonte Grant began the next chapter of his basketball career at Brookdale Community College in Monmouth County.  Despite playing limited minutes off the bench, Grant still managed to make plenty of contributions to the Jersey Blues third place finish in the National Division III JUCO tournament in New York this past season.

Coming off last year’s national championship with a 33-1 overall record, Brookdale continued to enjoy another great deal of success by winning the Garden State Athletic Conference and Region 19 championships.  Falling short in the national semifinals to Rock Valley College, the Jersey Blues rebounded to salvage a third place finish in the tournament by defeating Eastfield College in the consolation game to finish the season 31-2.  Grant played a small role this season for Brookdale, but will have a chance to make a greater contribution next year along with South River’s Matt Martinez, who committed to the college back in May.

This past season, Grant played in 19 games with no starts.  In that time, Grant connected on 24 of 46 overall from the floor for 52 percent including 13 of 26 from three for 50 percent.  He also made 6 of 9 from the foul line for a total of 67 points on the year, or an average of 3.5 points per game.  Grant also collected 24 rebounds (1.3 rpg), 11 assists (0.6 apg), and 9 steals (0.5 spg).  His assist to turnover ratio this past season was 2.8.  Two of his best performances this year occurred against Passaic County Community College on January 18th, and Gloucester County College on January 23rd.  In both of those games combined, Grant sank 7 of 10 three point attempts, and scored 12 points in each.

Grant also scored 9 points against in a 105-60 victory over Ocean County College on November 19, 2013 and 7 points in a 90-46 win over Bergen County Community College on November 26, 2013.  In one of his final performances of the season, Grant scored 6 points on 2 of 3 shooting from beyond the arc in a 102-66 victory over Atlantic Cape Community College on February 11th.
