GMC Hoops Game Notes–Dunellen vs. Roselle Park–Rahway Summer League–July 1, 2014

RAHWAY, NJ–In the first game of the GMC Hoops Tripleheader at the 2014 Rahway Summer League on Tuesday night, Dunellen took on Roselle Park in a matchup of two Group I schools. The Destroyers and Panthers have had some clashes over the years during the regular season. This contest was no different.

Over the last 17 minutes or so of the contest, neither team had a lead bigger than 6 points although Dunellen did have the lead almost throughout. Roselle Park did put together a 10-2 tear over a span of 7:56 to tie the game at 36-36 with 5:55 remaining, and then take the lead on a basket with 4:30 to play.

However, Dunellen stepped up the defensive pressure, and Dave Johnson took over on offense to lead the Destroyers to a game ending 13-7 spurt to win the game, 49-45. Below are game notes from most of the second half.

Second Half

16:56–Arrive–DUN leads 26-23.

16:33–DUN–Dave Johnson pulls up for jumper and a 28-23 lead.

14:21–RP–gets last three unanswered points including layup for a 30-26 DUN lead.

12:26–DUN–Johnson–banks in a runner for a 4-2 run and a 34-28 lead.

8:24–RP–rallies with a 5-0 run capped by floater in the paint for a 34-33 DUN lead.

5:55–RP–ties game up at 36-36 on a pair of fts after being fouled.

4:30–RP–basket and foul–missed ft for a 38-36 lead

3:52–DUN–timeout after jumper from left wing ties it at 38-38.

2:48–DUN–stl for a layup by Johnson to take a 40-38 lead.

2:44–RP–fouled–missed ft.

2:42–RP–scores on putback for a 40-40 tie.

2:31–DUN–fouled on floor.

1:54–RP–timeout–DUN on a 4-0 run thanks to some full court pressure and scores by Johnson for a 44-40 lead.  Johnson–fouled–makes both FTs for a 46-40 lead.

1:30–DUN–after three by RP, DUN gets score for a 48-43 lead.

43.4–DUN–Johnson–fouled–makes 1 of 2 FTs for a 49-43 lead.

21.8–RP–Steal–draws foul–makes both FTs for a 49-45 DUN lead.

6.5–RP–travels after getting a steal.

0.0–DUN–runs out the clock for a 49-45 win.
