GMC Gridiron Game Capsules–Week Nine–Saturday Afternoon

Two Blue Division Match-Ups Close Out Final Week Of Regular Season Action

SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ–On Saturday, Week Nine action will finish up with two games on the GMC Gridiron.  Both contests will match-up teams in the GMC Blue with the big game taking place at the Dawg Pound in Metuchen between the Bulldogs and the Spotswood Chargers.  This contest will help decide the 2014 Blue Division Champion.  Below are game capsules with predictions on the two contests:

Spotswood (5-3) at Metuchen (5-2)–The Chargers enter this contest undefeated in GMC Blue play at 4-0.  A win here will clinch the division.  Meanwhile, Metuchen comes in at 2-1.  Both teams defeated Middlesex on the road in hard fought contests with the Bulldogs shutting out the Jays three weeks ago (7-0) while Spotswood defeated the Jays in overtime last week (17-14).  Metuchen also pitched a shutout against South River (9-0) while Spotswood rolled past the Rams (39-7).  Spotswood defeated Dunellen on opening weekend (28-14) while the Bulldogs lost to the Destroyers in Week #3 action (46-22).  Both teams play very good defense with the Chargers allowing an average of just over 11.5 points per game while Metuchen has two shutouts and has yielded an average of 15 points per contest.  Spotswood is led by RB Chase Fee and QB Ryan Smolin while Metuchen is led by Danny Briggs, Evan Collier, and Devin Miller.  Spotswood will clinch the division here.  Prediction:  Spotswood wins, 28-14.

Highland Park (0-7) at South River (2-6)–Both of these teams have played Keansburg and Keyport with the Owls losing to the Titans (22-20) and the Red Raiders (14-12) by slim margins while the Rams defeated Keansburg in overtime (22-16) and Keyport (26-12) by two scores.  It has been a tough season for South River without the likes of Doug Ryan in their lineup.  The Rams have been soundly defeated in each of their last four games by a combined margin of 173-28.  The Owls have yet to win a game this season.  Highland Park is led by QB Ryan O’Shea and RB Nasir Boykins.  Dylan Boynton and Justin Simms also contribute.  Meanwhile, South River is led by QB Nick Lepore, TE/RB/LB Sean Darrar, WR Richie Leogrande, and RB Khaliyl Everett.  The Rams will put out a good deal of frustration in this game.  Predicition:  South River wins, 35-7.

GMC Gridiron will be at the freshmen football contest between Piscataway and Old Bridge and then the varsity game between Colonia and South Plainfield on Friday.
