GMC Hoops Game Notes—Scrimmage—St. Joseph’s vs. Linden—December 11, 2014

LINDEN, NJ—On Thursday afternoon, GMC Hoops kicked off its scrimmage coverage with a trip to Linden High School to see the hometown Tigers in action against five time defending GMCT and 2014 T of C Champion, St. Joseph’s in a pre-season scrimmage. The two teams went at it for three quarters with Linden winning the first two, and Joes winning the last one. Linden won the overall battle by a score of 41-36. Breein Tyree led the Falcons in a losing cause with a solid performance. Below are game notes from the action:

First Quarter

6:00—Arrive with Linden leading 3-0.

2:57–Under three minutes to go in the first period and Linden leads 11-1 following an 8-1 run by the Tigers including a three pointer by Otis Livingston. Breein Tyree has the only scoring for Joes with a FT.

0:00–End of first qtr and Linden leads 13-8 after a short jumper by STJ’s Marcus Ashamole. St. Joseph’s ends first qtr with a 7-0 run after Linden scored 8 straight points. Tyree and Ashamole got buckets for Joes during late run.


Second Quarter

3:23 left in first half and Linden leads 11-5 despite a baseline jumper from the right side by Tyree for Joes.

0:00–End of 2nd and Linden wins that frame 13-11, but Joes ends qtr on 6-2 run including another jumper by Tyree.


Third Quarter

7:18 left in third and Joes calls time after Linden starts frame with a 5-0 run including layup by Otis Livingston.

6:50 left in third and Tyree nets a trey from the left wing for a 5-3 Linden lead.

5:19 left in the third and Linden calls time after this three by Joes for a 6-5 lead. First lead of scrimmage for Falcons.

4:31 left in the third and Joes calls time after Livingston hits a baseline jumper from the right side for a 7-6 Linden lead.

2:43 left in the third and Linden leads 11-10 following an off-balanced jumper from the right side by the Tigers. Seesaw battle in this period. Six lead changes in the last 2:36.

0:00–Third qtr ends with Mikey Granda netting three fts to give Joes a 17-15 edge in frame. The Falcons ended the period on a 7-4 run, and outscored Linden by a margin of 17-10 over the last 6:50 of the quarter. Linden wins two of the three periods, and wins by an overall score of 41-36.
