GMC Hoops Game Notes–New Brunswick @ Edison–White Division Clash–January 22, 2015

EDISON, NJ–On Thursday night, GMC Hoops traveled over to Edison High School to take in a White Division contest between New Brunswick and Edison. Led by Juston Payne, who had a game high 13 points and Brandon Radd, who chipped in with 11, Edison broke away from a 31-31 tie with a 15-4 tear over the last 3:29 to defeat NBHS by the score of 46-35. Justin Turner added 8 points for the Eagles including two threes while Maurice Ffrench led the Zebras with 12 points including 8 in the second half while Trevon Blakey scored all 11 of his points over the final two periods. Below are game notes from the action:

First Quarter

Edison jumps out to an 8-2 lead thanks to threes by Brandon Radd and Justin Turner and a field goal by Al Newcombe.


Second Quarter

1:01–Arrive–Edison Eagles led 18-6. Justin Turner made two fts for a 20-6 lead.

0:30–New Brunswick’s Maurice Ffrench is fouled. Makes both fts for a 20-8 Edison lead.

0:00–At the half, Edison leads 20-8. EHS outscored NBHS by a 12-6 margin in the 2nd. New Brunswick first half scoring. Maurice Ffrench leads Zebras with 4 points. Edison first half scoring. Juston Payne leads Eagles with 7 points. Brandon Radd and Justin Turner have 6 and 5 respectively for EHS. New Brunswick had just 3 field goals in the first half.


Third Quarter

4:30 left in the third and Edison calls timeout after New Brunswick opens second half on a 9-1 year including this score for a 21-17 Edison lead.

0:00–End of third and Edison clinging to a 28-25 lead thanks to this three by Juston Payne with 4.5 seconds left in frame. New Brunswick had a 17-5 tear to tie the game at 25-25.


Fourth Quarter

6:15 left in the game and Edison and New Brunswick are tied at 28-28. NBHS timeout.

3:29 left in the game and New Brunswick calls timeout with the score tied at 31-31. Maurice Ffrench gave the Zebras a 30-29 lead on a jumper. Juston Payne answered with a pair of fts for a 31-30 lead before NBHS made a foul shot to tie it.

1:57 left and Edison calls timeout with a 36-32 lead after scores by Al Newcombe and Ish Treadwell.

58.6 seconds left and NB calls timeout after a three pointer from the right side by Trevon Blakey for a 38-35 Edison lead. Brandon Radd made a couple fts earlier for a 38-32 Edison lead.

44.1 seconds left and chaos reigns at EHS. John Zanfordino is fouled and a fight almost breaks out, but the officials manage to get things under control. Zanfordino makes both fts for a 40-35 lead.
