GMC Hoops Slideshow–March 3, 2015–#11 J.F. Kennedy @ #6 Wall Township–CJ Group III Tourney

Here is a slideshow of photos taken from the action in the opening round of the 2015 Central Jersey Group III State Tournament between J.F. Kennedy and Wall Township. The Mustangs, which entered the game winners of 6 of their last 7, jumped out to a 19-13 lead at the 5:46 mark before Wall rallied with an 8-0 run to take a 21-19 edge with under a minute remaining in the first half. Kobie Wells then got a basket while being fouled, and then JFK got an offensive rebound off the missed bonus free throw, and got it to Kush Patel for a layup with just 4.7 seconds left to take a 23-21 lead into the intermission.

Kennedy then increased its lead to 40-26 with about two minutes to go in the third quarter with a 17-5 start to the second half including a 9-0 run highlighted by several scores from sophomore forward Pete Obertan and threes by Stepp Ozigebe and Andrew Allen. The Crimson Knights, led by Brendan Barcas, who scored 16 of his game high 23 points in the second half including a layup that not only closed the gap to 44-42 with around two minutes left, but also gave him his 1,000th career point, stormed back by scoring 20 of the last 24 points over the final 10 minutes including a three pointer from the right wing by Joe Tashjy with 18 seconds left to take the lead for good in a 46-44 victory.

Ozigebe and Obertan shared team high honors for Kennedy with 14. Ozigebe, who made four threes in the contest, scored 11 of his points in the first half. Allen finished with 8 points for the Mustangs, which concluded their season at 11-15.
