GMC Hoops Game Notes–Team Shore vs. Horn Law Group—Jersey Shore Basketball League—July 7, 2015

WALL TOWNSHIP, NJ—In the nightcap of the Tuesday night doubleheader at the 2015 Jersey Shore Basketball League being held at Wall Township High School, defending league champion, Horn Law Group had itself a bit of a battle on its hands when it took on Team Shore. Thanks to a 25-12 surge over a span of 7:54, Horn Law Group jumped out to a 37-27 lead.

Nate Pacius spearheaded the attack on both sides of the ball and Joe Willman, Ashzon Artis, Collin Stewart, and Will Sanborn all benefited. However, led by CBA’s Rob Mabrey and former Woodbridge standout, Keith Hughes, Team Shore rallied with a 40-29 surge over the next 15:44 to take a 67-66 lead heading into the fourth.

Mabrey then gave Team Shore a 79-77 lead on a three with 5:48 remaining, but Horn Law Group embarked on a decisive 13-3 tear over a span of 4:32 to take a 90-82 lead en route to the 96-88 victory. Below are game notes from the action:

First Quarter

8:26–TS–jumps out to a 5-0 lead on a layup and three by Woodbridge’s Keith Hughes.

6:03–HLG–rallies back with a 6-2 run including a layup by Nate Pacius and a three by Ashzon Artis for a 7-6 TS lead.

5:02–TS–timeout after scores byJoe Willman and Artis cap a 4-2 run for a 10-9 HLG lead.

3:38–TS–takes a 15-12 lead on three from left corner by CBA’s Roy Mabrey.

0:00–HLG–ends qtr with a 13-5 run capped by Nate Pacius score before the buzzer and layups by Willman and Artis for a 25-20 lead after one.


Second Quarter

6:14–HLG–on a 10-7 run including three by Collin Stewart and score by Will Sanborn for a 35-27 lead.

5:44–HLG–timeout with a 37-27 lead after another score by Stewart.

2:51–HLG–timeout after Hughes layup and Mabrey three caps a 12-3 TS tear and closes the gap to 40-39.

1:31–TS–takes first lead at 41-40 since first qtr on a transition layin by former Jackson Memorial standout Brian Kenny.

1:08–HLG–takes lead at 42-41 right back on reverse layup by Stewart.

0:43–TS–Eric Carter blocks shot by Devine.

0:00–neither team able to score in final minute as HLG clings to 42-41 halftime lead.


Third Quarter

5:50–TS–gets three from Mike Rotando to close the gap to 56-52 after a couple scores by Willmann opened half for a 14-8 HLG run.

3:19–TS–pulls within one on jumper by Mabrey after scores by Artis and Sanborn for HLG 60-59 lead.

0:27–HLG–timeout after Hughes soars for a two handed dunk for TS to close gap to one again at 66-65.

0:07–TS–Hughes fouled by Artis. Makes both FTs for a 67-66 TS lead.

0:00–TS swipes steal but fail to score. Still leads 67-66.


Fourth Quarter

9:44–TS timeout with 67-66 lead.

6:10–TS takes a 76-75 lead on layin by Hughes.

5:59–HLG–Willman layup for 77-76 lead.

5:48–HLG–timeout after three by Mabrey gives TS a 79-77 lead.

4:16–HLG–Stewart fouled and makes both FTs for a 79-79 tie.

4:09–HLG–Willman fouled and makes 1 of 2 FTs for an 80-79 lead.

3:53–HLG–Pacius steal leads to foul on Artis who makes both for an 82-79 lead.

2:48–TS–Kenny layup for an 82-81 HLG lead.
