GMC Hoops Highlights–August 7, 2015–Ridge vs. Nottingham–Summer Primetime Shootout

Here are some 2nd half highlights from the contest between Ridge and Nottingham on day two of the 2015 Summer Primetime Shootout at Trenton Catholic Academy.

This game ended up being the second best game of the day seen by GMC Hoops. Nottingham, which went 2-0 yesterday including a double digit win over Morristown took on Ridge, which was coming off an overtime win earlier in the day on Friday against St. Peter’s Prep.

The game went back and forth early on with several ties and lead changes before Ridge made back to back threes in an 8-0 run that transformed a 14-13 deficit into a 21-14 lead with 4:43 left in the first half. Nottingham then ended the half on a 7-2 run to close the gap to 23-21 at the break.

In the second half, neither team scored until Nottingham connected on a runner to tie the game at 23-23 with 16:50 left. Then, Ridge scored the next 6 points including two layups and two FTs over a 2:31 span to take a 29-23 lead with 14-19 to play.

The Northstars rallied back with 7 of the next 9 points including a floater that banked in to narrow the deficit to 31-30 with 7:32 to play. Ridge gave itself some much needed breathing room with 5 of the next 6 points including a three at the 4:15 mark for a 36-32 lead. From there, both teams marched to the foul line.

Nottingham sank two free throws with exactly a minute left to close the gap to 36-34. Angad Singh made both ends of the bonus with 54.3 seconds left for a 38-34 Ridge lead. The Northstars of Hamilton North then made one of two with 35.9 seconds left and two with 15.9 seconds left for a 38-37 Ridge lead.

Max Mahoney who got off to another solid start including a two handed dunk in the first half, made one of two at the line for a 39-37 lead with 15.2 seconds left. Nottingham had a chance to tie with 5.8 seconds to play, missed the first free throw and made the second. Mahoney then closed out the 41-38 win with two free throws at the 4.2 second mark.
