SOUTH AMBOY, NJ–In the nightcap of the tripleheader on opening night of the 2016 Raritan Bay Summer League, the Central Jersey Jayhawks High School squad consisting of players from Bishop Ahr, J.P. Stevens, and Sayreville, took on a squad from Colts Neck.
Early on, the Jayhawks looked sharp as Ahr’s Kieran Hodder had a three and a layup while Sayreville’s Derek Astarita chipped in with a floater and Stevens Brian Beiter added a trey of his own for a 10-4 lead at the 13:13 mark of the first half. However, Colts Neck rallied with an 11-2 tear to take a 15-12 lead before BGA’s Sean Kudelka converted a traditional three point play for a 15-15 tie at the break.
After an early score by Colts Neck for a 17-15 lead to open the second half, the Jayhawks scored 7 of the next 8 including a layup by Kudelka for a 22-18 lead with 14:05 to play. However, Colts Neck responded with a 7-0 run for a 25-20 lead, and held off a couple late charges by the Jayhawks for the 32-29 victory. Below are game notes from the action:
