Stevens Downs Carteret; Kennedy Falls to Scotch Plains

RAHWAY, NJ–On Tuesday night, GMC Hoops traveled over to Rahway High School to take in the final day of regular season action in the 2016 Rahway Summer League. Four GMC teams were in action as J.P. Stevens took on Carteret while Kennedy battled Scotch Plains, and Amboy Tech finished out the night with a contest against Johnson Regional.

In the first game, the Hawks of J.P. Stevens led by Tyrese Conover, jumped out to a 17-6 lead over the first 11:39 of the contest, and didn’t let Carteret get any closer than eight points the rest of the way en route to a 42-33 victory. Stevens finished the regular season at 9-1, and clinched the top seed for the playoffs.

After Rahway defeated Roselle in a Union County clash in the second game, J.F. Kennedy took on Scotch Plains in the third contest of the day. The Mustangs jumped out to a 13-6 lead, but then the Raiders rallied with an 11-0 run to go ahead by four. Kennedy scored the last five points of the half all courtesy of Kyle Heaney for an 18-17 halftime lead.

Scotch Plains took charge in the second half with an 8-0 run that turned a 27-26 deficit into a 34-27 lead. The Raiders then extended that lead to a dozen thanks to the three point shot that highlighted a 19-12 run for a 53-39 lead. The Mustangs got two more scores from Heaney during an 8-0 rally that closed the gap to six, but Scotch Plains netted a three from the right wing with 34 seconds left to put the game away.

There would be no official finale to the final day of the regular season as Perth Amboy lost to Johnson Regional by forfeit. Below are the results from Tuesday night action at Rahway:
