Former Ahr Standout Salva Playing Both Football and Basketball at Merrimack

North Brunswick Native Becomes Another Former GMC Standout to Play in Northeast 10

NORTH ANDOVER, MA–After completing a superb campaign last winter at Brookdale Community College in LIncroft, North Brunswick native and former Bishop Ahr football and basketball standout, Dillon Salva has moved on to Merrimack College in Massachusetts, where he intends to make his mark on both the gridiron and hardwood.

Salva played in two games at tight end this season for Merrimack’s football team, and had 4 receptions for 51 yards including a touchdown in the school’s second game of the season against American International before he was sidelined by injury. Merrimack finished 3-8 overall including a 2-7 mark in the Northeast-10.

So far this basketball season, Salva has yet to play, but the team is 3-1 overall so far including a 1-0 mark in conference play. Last year, the Warriors were 15-12 overall including a 10-11 record in the Northeast-10. Merrimack finished sixth in the conference, which was just short of qualifying for the post-season tournament.

Last year at Brookdale, Salva led the Jersey Blues to a 21-11 overall record including a 14-7 mark in the Garden State Athletic Conference. In the Region 19 playoffs, Brookdale reached the Championship Game by defeating Camden County College (74-72) in the semifinals, but then lost to the Community College of Philadelphia in the final (55-54).

Salva played a crucial part in the Jersey Blues success in 2015-16. He played and started in all 32 games for Brookdale, and averaged 15.5 points, 13.9 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game. Salva connected on 210 of 397 shots for just under 53 percent shooting. He scored in double figures in 29 of Brookdale’s 32 games a year ago including eight where he scored 20 points or more.

Perhaps his best game of the season for Brookdale came against Camden County College on November 10, 2015 when he compiled a double-double of 24 points and 10 rebounds. In that game, Salva connected on 8 of 12 shots from the floor and another 8 of 11 from the charity stripe in a 100-86 win by the Jersey Blues over the Cougars. The Northeast-10 has had its fare share of former GMC standouts.

The list of former players from the Greater Middlesex Conference include: A.J. Rudowitz (Stonehill), Nick Smith (Stonehill), Vince Rosario (Stonehill), Dan Brix (Stonehill), Jermaine Clark (St. Rose), Kyle Pearson (Pace), and Corey Boland (Wardlaw). Currently, there are a couple of other former GMC players playing in the Northeast-10 including Branislav Vujadinovic (Assumption) and Jordan Lackey (Franklin-Pierce).
