No. 8 Carteret Surges Past Amboy Tech, 56-47

Ramblers Rally in 2nd Half to Defeat GMC Gold Leading Patriots

CARTERET, NJ–Less than 24 hours after defeating North Brunswick in a GMC Crossover, eighth ranked Carteret was back on the floor with another crossover contest against Gold Division leading Perth Amboy Tech on Saturday afternoon.

The short rest didn’t do the Ramblers any good against a Perth Amboy Tech team that last played on Wednesday night against Timothy Christian. The Patriots took full advantage by scoring 7 of the first 9 points off early Carteret turnovers, and eventually led 28-18 at the intermission.

However, Carteret regrouped at halftime, and put together a 38-19 surge over the final two periods to come away with its sixth straight victory, 56-47. Jemar Jordan led the way with a double-double of 20 points and 10 steals along with 7 rebounds and 2 blocked shots.

Also scoring in double figures for the Ramblers was Jordan’s fellow frontcourt mate, Isaiah Daniels-Porter, who collected 12 points and 5 rebounds. Jalen Harris (6 points, 2 assists, 2 steals, and a rebound) and Kahir Raymond (6 points, 3 rebounds, 3 steals, and an assist) each scored 6 points.

Nasseir Moore also contributed with 5 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals. Eight different players scored again for the Ramblers while only six scored for Amboy Tech. Carteret, as a team, also collected 28 rebounds, 24 steals, 10 assists, and two blocked shots.

Amboy Tech was able to jump out to its halftime lead behind its three point shooting. The Patriots outscored Carteret by a margin of 18-0 from long distance. However, the Ramblers enjoyed a 36-14 advantage in points scored within the arc, and 20-15 edge in points scored at the charity stripe.

Javon Fisher and Miguel Hernandez led Amboy Tech in a losing cause with 14 points each. Kyle Gregory chipped in with 8 for the Patriots, which lost its first conference game this season. With the victory, Carteret won its sixth straight, and improved to 14-2 overall including an 11-1 mark in the GMC.

Meanwhile, Perth Amboy Tech, which had its six game winning streak snapped, dropped to 10-3 overall on the season including a 10-1 mark in conference play. The loss was the first for the Patriots since losing to Morristown Beard in the consolation round of the Al LaBalbo Holiday Tournament on December 29th.

Both teams return to action next week with Carteret traveling to Middlesex for a GMC Blue clash on Wednesday at 6:00 PM, and then visiting Bishop Ahr next Friday night for a GMC Blue Showdown at 7:00 PM. Meanwhile, Amboy Tech visits Somerset Tech on Tuesday at 5:30 PM before hosting East Brunswick Tech on Wednesday at 5:30 PM, and Highland Park on Friday at 5:30 PM.
