Big Day For GMC Red On Saturday

Division Makes Up For Regular Season Struggles With 5-1 Mark In Saturday Crossovers

SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ–Coming into play on Saturday, the teams in the GMC Red Division were a combined 6-16 against teams in other divisions of the Greater Middlesex Conference. The subpar record placed the division third in the GMC Hoops Conference Cup standings behind the Blue Division (16-2, 30 points) and the White Division (17-6, 28 points). However, in the play-in round of the GMCT as well as the lone regular season crossover matchup, the GMC Red did very well winning five of the six games it was matched up against other divisions. In the GMCT Play-In Round, South Brunswick defeated Perth Amboy Tech (66-47), Perth Amboy defeated East Brunswick Tech (52-41), Edison defeated South Plainfield (62-56), and Woodbridge downed South Amboy (56-49). The only loss suffered by the division was J.P. Stevens against J.F. Kennedy (66-52).

In the regular season crossover, East Brunswick defeated Spotswood by a score of 61-51 in a battle that may have been a preview of a 2010 GMCT Elite Eight matchup next Sunday at Middlesex County College. Saturday’s success boosted the GMC Red’s combined record in crossovers to 11-17. The GMC Blue is now 17-3, and the GMC White is 17-7.
