Lots of GMC Teams Having Double Digit Win Seasons

League Nearly Has 20 Teams With Ten Wins Or Better

SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ–Last year was the season for 20 wins around the GMC with seven teams accomplishing the feat. This year, there aren’t any teams that have reached that milestone yet. However, there are a number of teams in the conference that have won ten games or more. As of the conclusion of play on Saturday, a total of 19 teams in the GMC have won ten games or more. Six in the GMC Red, Five in the GMC White, Six in the GMC Blue, and two in the GMC Gold. Some notable teams include: South River, which has its first double-digit win season in five years, J.F. Kennedy, which has its second ten plus win season in three years, and most wins since the 2001-02 campaign, East Brunswick Tech, which is enjoying its third straight double digit win season, and Perth Amboy, which is having its first double figure win season since the 2004-05 campaign. South Amboy had its third double digit win season in four years.

With only 29 teams in the conference, having 19 teams with ten wins or better, and still more basketball to play is quite an accomplishment. In addition, there are other teams knocking on the door for 10 wins such as Carteret (9-10), Colonia (8-12), Edison (8-13), Dunellen (9-9), and Perth Amboy Tech (9-11). Of those 19 teams, fifteen have records of .500 or better. Overall, there are 16 teams that are at or above .500 this season. Teams leading the way in success are: St. Joseph’s (18-4), East Brunswick (18-3), Monroe (17-3), Bishop Ahr (15-2), Spotswood (15-3), Middlesex (14-6), Sayreville (13-6), New Brunswick (13-8), Cardinal McCarrick (13-9), Metuchen (11-6), and J.F. Kennedy (12-10). North Brunswick (10-10), South Brunswick (10-10), and Old Bridge (10-12) are also in this special group.

Two years ago 19 teams also reached double figure wins with three teams just falling short of that mark. In 2007-08, there were four teams from the Red, five teams from the White, six teams from the Blue, and four teams from the Gold that had ten wins or better. Of those teams, five reached twenty wins or more two years ago. This year looks like that may happen again. At least three teams: St. Joseph’s, East Brunswick, and Monroe are in good shape to get 20 wins or more. Bishop Ahr, Spotswood, and Middlesex may have to work a little to get it, but its possible.
