Old Bridge’s Bennett Shines At Brookdale C.C.

Former Knights Standout Helps Jersey Blues To Solid Campaign In 2010-11

LINCROFT, NJ–The Jersey Blues of Brookdale Community College turned in a solid season this past year, and one of the biggest reasons why was due to the significant contributions from a former Greater Middlesex Conference standout. Khalil Bennett, a former hoops player at Old Bridge High School, led the team in scoring as it put together a fifth place finish in the 13 team Region 19 Division III league.

Brookdale went 17-10 overall this past season, including a 15-7 in Region XIX, and 12-7 in the Garden State Athletic Conference for a fourth place finish there. The Jersey Blues qualified for the playoffs, where it lost in the Region XIX Quarterfinals to Camden County College (74-40). Bennett did his part for the Jersey Blues by averaging 16.9 points per game, which ranked him seventh in scoring among Region XIX Division III players. The Old Bridge native shot 162 of 344 for 47 percent including 30 of 91 from beyond the arc for 33 percent.

Bennett also went 119 of 141 from the foul line for 84 percent while also averaging 2.8 assists per game, 2.6 rebounds per game, 1.0 steals per game, and 0.5 blocks per game. Among his best games were a 29 point effort against Atlantic Cape Community College on January 18th and a 30 point showing against Bergen County Community College on January 22nd.
