Game Notes–Dunellen vs. J.P. Stevens–Rahway Summer League–July 24, 2012

RAHWAY, NJ–In a regular season contest from the 2012 Rahway Summer League, Dunellen took on J.P. Stevens in a battle of Gold and Red Division teams from the Greater Middlesex Conference. The Destroyers didn’t back down in this one as they jumped out to a 15-9 lead, and led by five at the intermission. Stevens would rally though behind the play of John Maxham and Jalen Sorrell to tie the game at 25-25, and then take the lead at 27-26, but Dunellen took control with a 10-4 spurt over a span of nearly eight and a half minutes for a 36-31 lead, and held on for the two point victory. Below are some notes from the game.

First Half

1:45–JPS–went on a 5-2 run using offensive rebounding and a bit of full court pressure to pull within 17-14. Scored on a putback, transition layup, and 1 of 2 FTs.
0:09–JPS–Sajeh Chowdhary drives in from left side for layup to pull Hawks to 21-16.
0:00–DUN–is able to keep a five point lead into the break. Went 4 of 4 from the foul line, and got a bucket down low from Dylan Hoski for their points…JPS outscored DUN by a 7-6 margin over the last three and a half or so minutes. Had 3 FGs versus DUNs one. Only went 1 of 4 from the foul line.


Second Half

15:13–DUN–Orville Thompson scores all of Dunellen’s first four points of the half on two layups to give the Destroyers a 25-20 lead.
10:10–JPS–Jalen Sorrell banks in shot from right side for a 26-26 tie.
9:00–JPS–John Maxham fouled on drive–makes 1 of 2 FTs for a 27-26 lead.
6:55–DUN–timeout.
3:29–DUN–Orville Thompson scores on a putback to cap a 6-2 run by Destroyers for a 32-29 lead.
2:45–JPS–scores for a 32-31 lead.
2:00–timeout–follows 2 FTs by DUN for a 34-31 lead.
31.0–DUN–layup for a 36-31 lead.
17.9–JPS–Maxham hits three pointer from left wing following block by Thompson for a 36-34 DUN lead–JPS timeout.
3.7–DUN–Hoski is fouled after both teams exchanged steals–misses FT.
0.0–JPS–is unable to get a shot off as time runs out–DUN wins 36-34.
