GMC Hoops Game Capsule—Scrimmage—Caldwell @ Cardinal McCarrick—December 13, 2014

SOUTH AMBOY, NJ—On Saturday afternoon, GMC Hoops took an extended lunch break at work to travel over to Cardinal McCarrick High School to take in the action between the Eagles and Caldwell in a pre-season scrimmage. The site was only able to take in a quarter of the JV scrimmage, and about a quarter and a half of the varsity scrimmage before having to get back to work.

In the varsity scrimmage, the Eagles trailed early on, and only led 4-2 with a little more than three minutes left in the first period, but then scored 9 of the next 11 points to cap a 13-2 tear before Caldwell hit a three to end the frame for a 13-7 Eagles edge in the quarter. Hodari Bazemore highlighted the run with an alleyoop dunk off a fast break while the Eagles added a three from the right wing. Then, McCarrick opened the second period by scoring the first eight points over the initial 2:24 including two scores by Gilberto Cue.

McCarrick’s varsity had trouble hitting shots early on, but then turned up the defensive pressure and forced some turnovers to feed the tear that ended the first period. Nyke McCombs didn’t play in the scrimmage for McCarrick. Earlier in the JV scrimmage, McCarrick trailed late, but then scored the last 6 points for a 10-9 edge in the frame.
