A Look at a Truly Super Sunday in GMC Basketball

Super Sunday Is Here, and It’s Really Super This Time

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ–On Sunday morning, play will begin in an unprecedented day in Greater Middlesex Conference basketball.  Due to the snowstorm that hit on Saturday, three of the games in the GMCT Girls Quarterfinals were pushed back to today.  So, what is already known as Super Sunday in GMC Boys Basketball, got truly super.  Seven games starting at 10:00 AM, and finishing up with the completion of the boys nightcap between top seeded St. Joseph’s and 9th seeded Woodbridge, which is slated to start at 7:00 PM.

The three girls games include 5th seeded Sayreville versus 4th seeded South Brunswick starting at 10:00 AM.  The girls game between the Lady Vikings and Lady Bombers will then be followed by a second GMCT Girls quarterfinal between 8th seeded South Plainfield and top seeded Piscataway at 11:30 AM.  Then, the GMCT Boys Elite Eight will go for a little bit with 6th seeded East Brunswick and 14th seeded Sayreville getting underway at 1:00 PM followed by the second boys quarterfinal between 7th seeded Carteret and 2nd seeded Colonia at 2:30 PM.

The boys tourney will take a break for a bit so that the third GMCT Girls quarterfinal can take place between 7th seeded South River and 2nd seeded Monroe at 4:00 PM.  After that, the nightcap portion of the GMCT Boys Elite Eight quadrupleheader will proceed with 5th seeded Perth Amboy taking on 4th seeded South Brunswick at 5:30 PM followed by the finale between the five time defending GMCT Boys champion, St. Joseph’s and 9th seeded Woodbridge at 7:00 PM.  All games will be played at New Brunswick High School.  Never before, well at least in the GMC Hoops era (2000-15), has the GMCT Boys and Girls Elite Eights been played on the same day and the same place.

You might be wondering why is the fourth GMCT Girls quarterfinal not being played today between Bishop Ahr and East Brunswick.  The reason for that is because the Lady Trojans and Lady Bears already played on Saturday afternoon at NBHS with EB winning over BGA, 61-41.  It is an historic day for basketball in Middlesex County and the Greater Middlesex Conference.  Wall to wall basketball.  So, if you are a hoops fan, especially of GMC basketball, New Brunswick High School is the place to be on this Sunday.  Once again, here is another look at the schedule for 2015 Super Sunday in the GMCT:
