If The GMCT Seeding Took Place Today…Update

This Is How GMC Hoops Would Now Seed the 2016 GMCT as of End of Play on Monday

SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ–With the seeding meeting of the 2016 GMCT approaching, GMC Hoops and some of his followers have been discussing how the tourney would be seeded if it were held today. So, after thinking about it for a bit, this is how we would seed the tourney if the seeding were to take place today.

Keep in mind a few things: 1.) Three of the division races have not been decided yet. Only St. Joseph’s in the GMC Red has clinched. Three teams are still vying for at least a share of their respective divisions in the White, Blue, and Gold. 2.) East Brunswick still has a chance to get a share of 2nd place in the GMC Red with wins over Piscataway on Tuesday and at home versus South Brunswick on Thursday. With all of that said, here is how we seeded the 2016 GMCT as of today:

One more important note: The GMC rules state that a team that wins their respective division automatically gets seeded in the Top 8 unless there is a tie. Then it would be the Top 9, 10, etc. Now, here for the mock seeding, we will not consider that since there are still games to be played.

  1. St. Joseph’s (15-3)–Clinched GMC Red and conference play.
  2. South Brunswick (14-2)–2nd in GMC Red and only two losses are to St. Joseph’s
  3. Colonia (13-4)–Tied for first in GMC White. Lost to Monroe hurt since it gave opening to both Sayreville and Woodbridge. However, the Pats still have the inside track with split versus Sayreville and defeated Woodbridge twice. Barrons and Bombers play again on Tuesday night.
  4. Sayreville (15-5)–Tied for first in GMC White and defeated Colonia and EB. Lost to Old Bridge and Woodbridge. Play Barrons again on Tuesday night
  5. Woodbridge (15-3)–3rd in GMC White, but only a game back of Sayreville and Colonia in standings. Also defeated Sayreville and EB. Plays Sayreville again on Tuesday night.
  6. East Brunswick (10-7)–3rd in GMC Red and defeated Old Bridge. Still has Piscataway and South Brunswick remaining on schedule. Win both, and the Bears get a share of 2nd in GMC Red.
  7. Spotswood (17-3)–First in GMC Blue. The Chargers have made life a bit difficult for themselves within the past couple weeks with division losses to Kennedy and Ahr. Win over Metuchen on Thursday will clinch division.
  8. Perth Amboy Tech (14-7)–A win over Wardlaw on Wednesday evening would clinch first outright division title for school since 1992-93 season. A loss opens the door to a possible three way tie. Lost to Perth Amboy. Won 9 of last 12.
  9. Old Bridge (13-6)–Fourth in GMC Red, but defeated Sayreville and JPS. Loss at EB last Thursday closed the door on a higher seed.
  10. J.P. Stevens (10-7)–Fourth in GMC White, but defeated Woodbridge. Tough last second loss at Sayreville last week as well as recent loss to Old Bridge puts Hawks at #10.
  11. Piscataway (7-12)–Fifth in GMC Red, and defeated North Brunswick twice, Perth Amboy, J.F. Kennedy, Edison, and Carteret. Still has EB left on the schedule.
  12. Bishop Ahr (8-7)–Tied for 2nd in GMC Blue. Big win over Spotswood. Split with Kennedy and Carteret. Lost to North Brunswick.
  13. Monroe (6-13)— 5th in GMC White. Falcons helped themselves significantly with recent win over Colonia. Also Defeated Edison, South Plainfield, and New Brunswick. Lost to Spotswood. Plays Edison on Tuesday.
  14. J.F. Kennedy (7-10)–2nd in the GMC Blue. Defeated Spotswood and Ahr. Split with Carteret. Lost to Piscataway and Colonia.
  15. North Brunswick (5-13)— 6th in GMC Red. Defeated Perth Amboy twice and Bishop Ahr. Lost to Carteret. Lost to P-Way twice.
  16. Perth Amboy (6-12)–7th in GMC Red. Defeated Amboy Tech, Piscataway and Carteret. Lost to North Brunswick twice.
  17. Carteret (7-13)— Fourth in GMC Blue. Defeated North Brunswick, Edison, Bishop Ahr, and Kennedy. Lost to Piscataway and Perth Amboy.
  18. South River (12-4)–Tied for 2nd in GMC Gold with Piscataway Tech, and split with Patriots. Also split with Piscataway Tech.
  19. Middlesex (6-13)–5th in GMC Blue. Defeated Carteret.
  20. Piscataway Tech (13-7)–Tied for 2nd in the GMC Gold. Defeated South RIver. Swept by Amboy Tech. Won 10 of last 12.
  21. East Brunswick Tech (13-5)–4th in GMC Gold. Split with Amboy Tech. Swept South Amboy.
  22. Edison (4-16)–6th in GMC White. Defeated South Plainfield and New Brunswick twice. Lost to Spotswood, Carteret, Monroe, Piscataway, and Old Bridge. Still has Monroe left on schedule Tuesday night. Lost to Sayreville by average of 20 points in two meetings.
  23. South Plainfield (4-14)–7th in GMC White. Defeated Monroe. Lost to Edison.
  24. South Amboy (9-11)–5th in GMC Gold. Defeated Amboy Tech. Split with P-Way Tech and South River. Swept by EB Tech. Lost to Sayreville by two at buzzer. Lost 6 of last 8 games.
  25. Wardlaw (9-10)–6th in GMC Gold. Split with South Amboy, Timothy Christian and Highland Park.
  26. Timothy Christian (7-12)–7th in GMC Gold. Split with EB Tech and South Amboy. Defeated Middlesex.
  27. Metuchen (3-15)–6th in GMC Blue. Split with Middlesex.
  28. Highland Park (4-15)— 8th in GMC Gold. Split with South River, Dunellen, and Wardlaw.
  29. Dunellen (3-15)–9th in GMC Gold. Split with Timothy Christian and Highland Park.
  30. New Brunswick (0-16)–8th in GMC White. No wins.

A few more notes here. East Brunswick can still get a share of 2nd place in the GMC Red with wins over Piscataway and South Brunswick. Colonia wins the GMC White outright with a win over New Brunswick and a Woodbridge win over Sayreville. The Bombers can win the division outright with a win at Woodbridge and a Colonia loss to New Brunswick.

Woodbridge, Sayreville, and Colonia can each share the GMC White title with a Woodbridge win over Sayreville and a Colonia loss to New Brunswick. Piscataway could make an argument for a higher seed past Stevens for 10th with a win over EB. Edison could end up in a tie for 5th with Monroe with a win at MTHS on Tuesday. Perth Amboy Tech wins the GMC Gold outright with a win over Wardlaw at home on Wednesday.

An Amboy Tech loss and a South River and P-Way Tech win, and there is a three way tie for first in the GMC Gold. A South River win and an Amboy Tech and P-Way Tech loss and the Rams and Patriots share the GMC Gold title. A Piscataway Tech win coupled with a South River and Amboy Tech loss, and the Raiders and Patriots share the Gold Division crown. Spotswood wins the GMC Blue outright with a win over Metuchen at The SAC on Thursday night.

J.F. Kennedy gets a share of the GMC Blue crown if it defeats Metuchen on Wednesday, Middlesex defeats Ahr on Wednesday, and the Bulldogs defeat Spotswood on Thursday. Ahr gets a shore of the Blue Division title with a win over Middlesex on Wednesday and a JFK loss to Metuchen on Wednesday and a Bulldog win at Spotswood on Thursday. Bishop Ahr, Kennedy, and Spotswood all end up with a share of the GMC Blue if Ahr and JFK win on Wednesday and Spotswood loses on Thursday. See the breakdown of the remaining division races.
