Latest 2016 GMCT Mock Seeding

Only a Few Questions Remain Going into Friday’s Seeding Meeting

SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ–With the seeding meeting of the 2016 GMCT set for Friday morning, GMC Hoops went through another round of mock seeding in preparation. Several things are yet to be decided including second and third place in the GMC Red, and first place in the GMC Blue. There are other crossovers such as Edison hosting Carteret on the schedule for Thursday night, which could also play a factor. Carteret played Edison previously this season in the Matawan Huskies Classic over the holidays, and won 57-55.

Keep in mind a few things: 1.) Three of the division races have now been decided: St. Joseph’s clinched the GMC Red earlier this week, Colonia and Sayreville finished tied for the GMC White crown on Tuesday, and Perth Amboy Tech won its first outright title since 1993 when it clinched the Gold on Wednesday night. Since there is a tie in the GMC White, there are five division winners (Joes, Colonia, Sayreville, Spotswood, and Amboy Tech). Therefore, those five teams must be seeded in the Top 9. If Spotswood loses against Metuchen tonight, then we would have to seed six division winners in the Top 10 since the Chargers and Mustangs would finish in a tie for the GMC Blue. With all of that said, here is how we seeded the 2016 GMCT as of today:

  1. St. Joseph’s (16-3)–Clinched GMC Red and conference play.
  2. South Brunswick (15-2)–2nd in GMC Red and only two losses are to St. Joseph’s. Plays EB tonight, and a loss would tie them with the Bears for 2nd
  3. Colonia (14-4)–Won a share of first in GMC White. Split with Sayreville and defeated Woodbridge twice. Also lost to Monroe.
  4. Sayreville (16-5)–Won a share of the GMC White. Split with Colonia and Woodbridge (defeated Barrons at WHS on Tuesday, 48-43). Also defeated EB and lost to Old Bridge.
  5. Woodbridge (15-4)–3rd in GMC White. Lost to Colonia twice, split with Sayreville, split with Stevens, defeated EB and Carteret. Had won 13 straight before loss to the Bombers on Tuesday
  6. East Brunswick (11-7)–3rd in GMC Red and defeated Old Bridge. Bears lost to Sayreville and Woodbridge. Plays South Brunswick on Thursday night. Win puts EB in 2nd place tie with SBHS in Red at 9-3.
  7. Old Bridge (15-6)–Fourth in GMC Red, but defeated Sayreville and JPS. Tie between Colonia and Sayreville in GMC White gives Knights argument for 7th due to win over Sayreville.
  8. Spotswood (18-3)–First in GMC Blue. With Ahr losing and Kennedy winning, the Chargers are only a half game up on the Mustangs with a game against Metuchen on Thursday night at The SAC. Win over Bulldogs will clinch division.
  9. Perth Amboy Tech (15-7)–Defeated Wardlaw on Wednesday to win its first outright division title since 1993. Won 10 of last 13. Lost to Perth Amboy.
  10. J.P. Stevens (10-7)–Fourth in GMC White, but defeated Woodbridge. Tough last second loss at Sayreville last week as well as recent loss to Old Bridge puts Hawks at #10. However, a Spotswood loss to Metuchen on Thursday night puts the Hawks in play for a top 8 spot.
  11. Piscataway (7-13)–Fifth in GMC Red, and defeated North Brunswick twice, Perth Amboy, J.F. Kennedy, Edison, and Carteret.
  12. Monroe (7-13)— 5th in GMC White. Falcons helped themselves significantly with recent win over Colonia. Also Defeated Edison (twice), South Plainfield, and New Brunswick (twice). Won 5 of last 7. Lost to Spotswood and Old Bridge.
  13. J.F. Kennedy (8-10)–2nd in the GMC Blue. Defeated Spotswood and Ahr. Split with Carteret. Lost to Piscataway and Colonia. A Spotswood loss versus Metuchen on Thursday night would give Mustangs a share of Blue title and a Top 10 seed. Won 7 of last 11.
  14. North Brunswick (5-14)— 6th in GMC Red. Defeated Perth Amboy twice and Bishop Ahr. Lost to Carteret. Lost to P-Way twice. Lost 11 of last 13.
  15. Perth Amboy (6-12)–7th in GMC Red. Defeated Amboy Tech (53-34), Piscataway and Carteret. Lost to North Brunswick twice.
  16. Bishop Ahr (8-8)–Finished for 3rd in GMC Blue. Tough loss to Middlesex on Wednesday after big win over Spotswood on Monday. Split with Kennedy and Carteret. Lost to North Brunswick. Won 5 of last 7.
  17. Carteret (7-13)— Fourth in GMC Blue. Defeated North Brunswick, Edison, Bishop Ahr, and Kennedy. Lost to Piscataway and Perth Amboy.

  19. Piscataway Tech (14-7)–Finished 2nd in the GMC Gold. Defeated South. Swept EB Tech. Swept by Amboy Tech. Won 11 of last 13.
  20. East Brunswick Tech (14-5)–3rd in GMC Gold. Split with Amboy Tech and South River. Swept South Amboy. Swept by P-Way Tech. Tigers have won 7 of last 8 including 58-43 win at South River on Wednesday.
  21. South River (14-7)–Tied for 3rd in GMC Gold with East Brunswick Tech, and split with Amboy Tech. Also split with Piscataway Tech and EB Tech. Lost 5 of last 8.
