Carteret and Old Bridge Representing GMC in Holiday Tourney at Matawan HS
MATAWAN, NJ—On Saturday, GMC Hoops learned that the 2021 Matawan Huskies Classic is scheduled to begin on Monday with Old Bridge and Carteret representing the Greater Middlesex Conference in this annual holiday tournament. Edison, which had been a participant in this tournament since 2014, is competing in the Anthony Cotoia Holiday Tourney in South Plainfield this year.
Old Bridge, which is coached by Jim Macomber, a 1,000 point scorer at Matawan, opens tourney play with a game versus Manalapan at noon on Monday, December 27th. The Knights are seeded fourth while Manalapan is seeded fifth. The winner of this game will take on the winner of top seeded Seton Hall Prep and 8th seeded Matawan.
Carteret, seeded 7th in the tourney, will take on 2nd seeded Union at 3:30 PM on Monday. This game will be a rematch of the thrilling 2019 Matawan Huskies Classic Championship won by Union in double overtime, 64-60. Carteret is returning to the hardcourt after not playing last season due to COVID. The winner of this game will take on the victor of the final game of the day between 3rd seeded Holmdel and 6th seeded Bayonne.
