GMC Hoops Game Notes–GMCBCA Senior Boys All-Star Game–March 31, 2015

WOODBRIDGE, NJ–On Tuesday night, GMC Hoops traveled over to Woodbridge High School to take in the 2015 GMCBCA Senior Boys All-Star Game. In the game, the Black Team got off to a solid start thanks to the efforts of Colonia’s J.J. Corbett, who scored a game high 23 points while dishing out several assists including three on alleyoop dunks by Sayreville’s Jehyve Floyd. However, after trailing 35-23 at the end of the first quarter, the White Team, led by the tandem of game MVP, Donzell Cunningham of Piscataway, who scored 15 points including 8 straight points in the fourth and St. Joseph’s Marcus Ashamole, who scored 12 of his 16 points in the fourth period, rallied to pull out the come from behind, 112-108 victory. Below are game notes from the action:

First Quarter

9:00–White Team jumps out to a 4-0 lead as St. Joe’s Marcus Ashamole scores the first four points of the game.

8:15 left in the first period and the Black Team has taken a 5-4 lead on on alleyoop dunk by Sayreville’s Jehyve Floyd off a backboard feed by Colonia’s J.J. Corbett. Floyd started the fast break that led to the dunk with a blocked shot.

4:17 left in the first period and Black Team leads 23-13 thanks to an alleyoop dunk by Sayreville’s Jehyve Floyd off a pass off the backboard by Colonia’s J.J. Corbett.

0:00–End of first qtr and Black Team leads 35-23 thanks to a three from the right side by Old Bridge’s Dante Whipple. Black Team ends first on a 12-10 run.


Second Quarter

4:54 left in the first half and the White Team has closed the gap to 41-33 on a reverse layup by Metuchen’s Artie Flaherty Jr. off a rebound and assist by Wardlaw’s Mike Newman. White Team on a 10-6 run.

0:00–Game has just gone to the half with the White Team closing to within 6 at 55-49 thanks in part to a late second quarter dunk by Carteret’s Jaquan Robertson.


Third Quarter

5:09 left in the third and Black Team stll leads 66-59. Black Team opens 2nd half with an 11-10 run.

0:00–Third quarter just ended with the White Team pulling to within two at 80-78 on a layup by Middlesex’s Stew Lester off a steal.


Fourth Quarter

7:32 left in the game and Black Team leads 86-82 after another nice alleyoop dunk by Sayreville’s Jehyve Floyd. Floyd has 8 points in the game, which all came on dunks.

5:42 left in the game and Black Team still leads 92-88 thanks to a long three from the left wing by Woodbridge’s Zahneer Shuler

4:57 left in the game and the White Team takes its first lead since early in the first half at 93-92 on a floater by Piscataway’s Donzell Cunnigham.

2:42 left in the game and despite a three from the left wing by Dunellen’s Al-Taron Fields, White Team still leads 102-100.

0:00–Game just ended with the White Team coming from behind for a 112-108 victory thanks to this late three by North Brunswick’s Kishan Patel. Piscataway’s Donzell Cunningham, who scored 8 of his 15 points in the fourth period, was selected game MVP. St. Joseph’s Marcus Ashamole scored 12 of his 16 points in the fourth for the White Team. Colonia’s J.J. Corbett led the Black Team with a game high 23 points.
