State Tourney Cutoff Approaching

SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ–Two weeks from this past Saturday is the cutoff for the various state tournaments. Last year was the first year that they went to a format with teams with sub .500 records were able to qualify as long as they were in the top 16 in their section. This year shapes up to be a similar format, and there are a number of teams that are already in good shape approaching this deadline. Among them are the following:

  • Timothy Christian (8-5)
  • Dunellen (8-5)
  • South River (8-5)
  • Metuchen (6-4)
  • Perth Amboy (8-7)
  • Middlesex (5-5)

Note: Colonia has also improved its standing greatly within the past week with three straight wins. Woodbridge won over Hightstown on Saturday, which boosted its record to 6-8. The Barrons have not qualified for the state tournament since 2006. Wardlaw defeated Timothy Christian on Saturday to improve to 5-7 on the season. South Plainfield is currently two games within .500 after defeating Sayreville on Thursday night (48-39).
