Old Bridge Hoops Standout to Play for Scarlet Raiders of NJAC Next Fall

OLD BRIDGE, NJ – Krish Patel is headed to the next level.  On Monday evening, GMC Hoops learned via Instagram that the Old Bridge boys basketball standout and 1,000-point scorer will be playing in the New Jersey Athletic Conference.  Patel committed to Rutgers-Newark, where he will continue his academic and athletic career next fall.

Patel stood out in the recent GMC Senior Boys All-Star Game at Old Bridge High School a little more than two weeks ago.  Trailing 29-20 in the second quarter, the GMC West All-Stars rallied for a 114-104 victory.  Patel sparkled as he helped ignite the GMC West’s rally with a superb second quarter.

A four-year varsity player for the Old Bridge Knights, Patel finished his career in second place on the OBHS scoring list with 1,278 points.  Patel scored his 1,000th career point during the Knights’ 71-52 victory over St. Joseph’s in Old Bridge on January 7th.  In that contest, Patel scored 24 points.  He would later score a career-high 32 points during a 67-56 win over Timothy Christian on February 1st.

Among the top three-point shooters in the Greater Middlesex Conference, Patel entered his senior year with 164 career treys to rank atop all returning players for the 2024-25 season.  Averaging 12.8 points per game during his career at Old Bridge, Patel scored 396 points this season to lead the Knights with 15.2 points per game.  His 32-point performance against Timothy Christian was one of the highest-scoring performances of the 2024-25 season.

Patel scored in double figures in 63 of his 100 career games.  In those 63 contests, Patel scored at least 20 points on twenty occasions, and at least 30 points once.  Entering his senior year, Patel had a career-high 7 three-point field goals in a 77-69 loss to Holmdel in the 2022 Matawan Huskies Holiday Classic.  During his 24-point performance against St. Joseph’s on January 7th, Patel connected on six.

Over Patel’s four-year career at Old Bridge, the Knights compiled an overall record of 53-49 including a 23-28 mark in the GMC Red.  The Knights reached the GMCT Round of 16 each season including a run to the Elite Eight in 2024-25.  Old Bridge also qualified for the NJSIAA Central Jersey Group 4 State Playoffs each year with a Quarterfinal Round appearance in 2023-24.  The Knights struggled for much of the season before putting together a solid run starting two weeks before the 2025 GMCT.

Highlight’s from Krish Patel’s 20-point performance during Old Bridge’s 60-34 victory over Woodbridge in the 2023 Matawan Huskies Holiday Classic.

Following a 74-57 loss at St. Joseph’s on January 23rd, Old Bridge stood at 6-9 overall.  The Knights then embarked on an eight-game winning streak over a three-week span.  Included in the victories were key GMC crossover wins against Timothy Christian, Perth Amboy, Woodbridge, and South Plainfield.  All four of those teams were ranked in the GMC Hoops Top Ten during the course of the 2024-25 season.

In addition, the Knights knocked off the top-ranked Colonia Patriots in Colonia on January 30th.  The victory at Colonia coupled with those four key crossover wins enabled Old Bridge to earn the fifth seed in the 2025 GMCT.  During this crucial eight-game stretch, Patel scored in double figures in every game, scored at least 20 in four of the contests, and had his career high.  Patel averaged 21.4 points per game over the eight-game period.

Rutgers-Newark has always been a popular destination for Greater Middlesex Conference Boys Basketball.  North Brunswick’s Donovan Crawford, another 1,000-point scorer was on the roster during the 2024-25 campaign.  This past season, the Scarlet Raiders were only 7-18 overall including a 3-15 mark in the NJAC.  A year ago, Rutgers-Newark finished 12-13 overall and 8-10 in conference.

Congratulations Krish on your accomplishments, and best of luck at the next level.
