GMC Hoops Players of the Game:  Highland Park vs. Perth Amboy (Girls)

Perth Amboy’s Izabella Pardo (22 points) and Highland Park’s Valentina Kambitsis (18 points) were chosen GMC Hoops Players of the Game in the contest between the Lady Panthers and the Lady Owls in Highland Park on January 5th.

GMC Hoops saw some girls basketball action on January 5th. One of the two games covered was the contest between Perth Amboy and Highland Park.

In a Greater Middlesex Conference White National Division clash, Perth Amboy’s Izabella Pardo collected a double-double of a game high of 22 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Lady Panthers (4-3) to a 59-36 victory over Highland Park.

Pardo got a first-quarter steal and score to become the new all-time leading scorer at the school with exactly 1,300 career points. Teammate Heilyn Cruz chipped in with 15 points on five three-pointers and 12 rebounds.

Valentina Kambitsis led Highland Park (3-5) in a losing cause with 18 points, while senior Ava Koehler chipped in with 10.. Both Pardo and Kambitsis were selected as GMC Hoops Players of the Game.

Highland Park:  Valentina Kambitsis

The Highland Park freshman guard made a big impression in a losing cause against Perth Amboy.  Kambitsis, the younger sister of Highland Park boys basketball standout Evangelos Kambitsis, led the Lady Owls in defeat with a team-high 18 points and 4 rebounds.  Kambitsis connected on five total field goals, including two threes, and made 6 of 7 from the foul line.  She scored 10 in the first half and 8 over the final two periods.  So far this season, Kambitsis is averaging 9.9 points per game and ranks second on the team in scoring.

Perth Amboy:  Izabella Pardo

Pardo collected a double-double of a game-high of 22 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Lady Panthers.  Pardo tallied her 22 points on 8 field goals and 6 foul shots.  She also collected two assists and two steals.  Her two steals led to scores.  En route to her game-high Pardo swiped a first-quarter steal and score to become the new all-time leading scorer at the school with exactly 1,300 career points.  The previous scoring mark was held by 2005 graduate, Amanda Sepulveda (1,282 points).  So far this season, Pardo leads the team in scoring with 22.1 points per game.
